The International break is back and the Uefa Nations League returns and returns with lots of excitement and great fixtures, no further delay this is what we think of some fixtures this weekend.
Italy VS England
Attention will be on Stadio Giuseppe Meazza when Italy and England face each other in a highly-anticipated Nations League game. The Azzurri aim to bounce back from a heavy 5-2 loss to Germany, with the team eyeing their second win of the process. Roberto Mancini has named a very experienced squad for the upcoming Nations League matches, with all Leonardo Bonucci, Ciro Immobile, Marco Veratti, and Jorginho making the cut, while Ivan Provedel, Guglielmo Vicario, and Pasquale Mazzocchi are the new faces in Mancini’s team.
The Three Lions, on the other hand, aim to make amends for an embarrassing 4-0 loss to Hungary. Since both sides will go for a win in Friday’s showdown, we are tempted to put our money on both teams to score. In-form Brentford attacker Ivan Toney has received his first England call-up, with Tottenham defender Eric Dier making his return to the squad. Marcus Rashford misses out with injury, while the opposition back-line should have Harry Kane at bay as the Spurs striker has been scoring goals for fun of late.
Our Prediction, GG or Draw
Czech Republic VS Portugal
Fortuna Arena will host Saturday’s Nations League game between Czech Republic and Portugal, the two teams who were beaten by Spain and Switzerland respectively in their last group games. The Czechs aim to avoid relegation to League B, but they will have a mountain to climb in round 5.
A Selecao, on the other hand, aim to melt Spain’s advantage in top position. Since Fernando Santos can count on key players Cristiano Ronaldo, Diogo Jota, Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva for Saturday’s clash, away win should be considered. Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes has been included as well. Earlier in the process Portugal recorded a routine 2-0 win over Czech Republic.
Our Prediction, Portugals wins
Spain VS Switzerland
Spain will be aiming to retain top position in Group 2 when they host Switzerland to Estadio La Romareda on Saturday. La Roja are eyeing their third consecutive win of the process, and they are likely to adopt an attack-minded approach against Switzerland. Experienced players Jordi Alba, Cesar Azpilicueta, Alvaro Morata, and Sergio Busquets have all been included, while Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio is back to the squad.
Switzerland, on the other hand, desperately needed a win against Portugal, and they managed to get one, with the team regaining a much-needed confidence. Murat Yakin’s men, though, will have a mountain to climb in Saturday’s clash as Spain are a real force to be reckoned with at home.
Our prediction, Spain wins and over 1.5
Germany VS Hungary
Buoyed by a splendid 5-2 win over Italy, Germany will look to overtake Hungary in top position when the two teams face each other at Red Bull Arena. Southampton defender Armel Bella Kotchap has received a surprising call-up, with Bayern Munich footballers Manuel Neuer, Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, and Joshua Kimmich making the cut as well.
The Hungarians, on the other hand, are surprising Group 3 leaders, with the team beating England twice in the process. Anyhow, home triumph should be considered this time out as Germany impressed in the crushing of Italy three months ago. As for the visiting side, Freiburg Roland Sallai will be sorely missed as he had to withdraw through injury. It has to be noted that Sallai scored a brace in the 4-0 triumph over the Three Lions at Molineux Stadium.
Our prediction, Germany wins and over 1.5 goals
Armenia VS Ukraine
Armenia will look to make amends for a massive 4-1 loss to Scotland when they take on Ukraine in the Nations League round 5. The Armenians aim to avoid relegation to League C, but given their three-game losing run in Group 1, home win should not be considered. To make things even worse for the hosts, defender Arman Hovhannisyan is banned for the match following his sending off in the defeat to Scotland.
The visitors, on the other hand, aim to retain top position, and we predict that they will take advantage of Armenia’s shaky defence. As for the visiting side, both Nikolay Sharapenko and Georgy Bushchan had to withdraw from the squad through injuries. Earlier in the process Ukraine recorded a routine 3-0 win over Armenia, which is yet another reason why we are tempted to put our money on the away team.
Our prediction Ukrain wins
Slovenia VS Norway
Saturday’s football game at Stadion Stozice pits together Slovenia and Norway, the two teams who sit in the opposite halves of the table. The Slovenians are stuck at the bottom with only two points in their pocket, but a win over Norway could see them overtake Sweden in third place.
The Scandinavians, on the other hand, continue to rely on new Man City ace Erling Haaland, who has already started paying off in the Premier League. Norway aim to retain top position in Group 4, and we predict that they will prove their worth on the field. Since Arsenal attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard has been in a splendid form of late as well, away win should definitely be considered.
Our prediction, Both team to score.
Israel VS Albania
Israel and Albania go head to head at Bloomfield Stadium in the UEFA Nations League round 5. The Israelis aim to extend their unbeaten run to four games, and the bookies see them as slim favourites to win Saturday’s clash.
The Albanians, on the other hand, aim to get their revenge on Israel for a 2-1 loss in Tirana, but beating Alon Hazan’s troops on the road is easier said than done. The two teams seem to be evenly matched at the moment, and, taking everything into account, we believe that there is a big value in betting on draw.
Our prediction, GG or Draw.
Scotland VS Ireland
There will be fireworks when Scotland and Republic of Ireland face each other at Hampden Park. The Scotts are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but keep in mind that they will be without Andy Robertson, John Souttar, Liam Cooper, and Ross Stewart in Saturday’s showdown. The good news for the hosts is that important defender Kieran Tiernay returns to the squad.
The Boys in Green, on the other hand, aim to avoid relegation to League C. Earlier in the process Ireland rolled over Scotland 3-0 in Dublin, but a close encounter is on the cards this time out. You should know that under 2.5 goals have been netted in five of their last six meetings in all competitions.
Our prediction, GG and Over 1.5
Serbia VS Sweden
All eyes will be on Stadion Rajko Mitic when Serbia and Sweden face each other in a highly-anticipated Nations League game. The Serbs did well to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals, with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring the winner in the decider against Portugal. Dragan Stojkovic’s men aim to give fans yet another reason for celebration, and they are likely to stick to their attacking style of play. Goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic is banned for the match, while Stefan Mitrovic (Crvena zvezda) and Srdjan Babic (Almeria) have received their first call-ups.
Key defender Nikola Milenkovic remains in the recovery room, but both Dusan Tadic and Aleksandar Mitrovic will start against Sweden. The visitors, on the other hand, are on a three-game losing run in Group 4, which is probably the main reason why we are going to bet on Serbia. Isak Hien and Patrik Walemark could make their Sweden debuts in Saturday’s clash, while all Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Albin Ekdal, Hjalmar Ekdall, and Emil Krafth miss out for the visiting side.
Our prediction, Serbia wins or GG
